ARISTOTLE, PANDORA, MALCOLM, LUCY, ANTONIA, and NATALIE BADDOCK, along with PTOLEMY's widow, KAROLINE MOON BADDOCK, settle in Luxembourg. The school-aged children are schooled at home by tutors for one year, then attend Durmstrang. Aristotle and Lucius Malfoy reconnect and together invest and rebuild their fortunes. Karoline resumes composing, this time for an independent movie studio in Prague.

Good morning, dearest,

How are you feeling this morning? Any pain?

I hope you got my note.

I did so want to be with you when you woke but we received some rather bad news this morning. Your wretched sister-in-law has gone and ordered Karo's family killed.

As you might imagine, it's upset Karo a great deal. She'd no particular love for her father but her mother.... And there was no reason to kill the youngest of the lot. We're thinking through our next options and what's to be done. I shan't bore you with details. Suffice to say it's thoroughly unpleasant and I'd far rather still be wound up in you.

But you ought to have breakfast in bed, and enjoy these last few days of leisure. Soon you'll be an important wireless personality, after all! There'll be no time for lying in.

Antonin,

Know that the relief we feel at having you back is matched only by the sympathy and grief we share for your loss. Barty was an immeasurable asset to the cause, and over the past weeks and months I have personally seen how important his devotion was to you, as a comfort, a companion and a promise of continuance of your traditions.

So you must also understand how I hate to intrude upon your mourning by telling you of the message Ginny Weasley received from Miss Longbottom. She says that Barty died about a mile south of the Astronomy Tower but that his body was torn apart. She seems to believe there is nothing to recover. It's difficult to tell from a journal post but it does seem to me that she might have been sending a message to taunt you.

Ginny's here with me and she says you can come and read the entry yourself, if you like. There's some Arabic I'm unable to translate accurately (he admits sheepishly).

If you'd like an honour guard to accompany you, should you decide to go investigate, say the word. I'm sure Lana will oblige.

Having a small card party tonight in our apartments at Buckingham. You're all invited and bring who you like. Monty, assuming you'll have Seamus in tow; Lana, not sure it's Rod's sort of entertainment but if he's interested he's surely welcome. Orion, too, if he wishes. Sarah, same for you and Fleischer.

Have no fear, the Little Venice festival is ready and waiting! Take a gondola trip up the Thames, under bridges that for this weekend evoke the City of Canals. Stroll along the Embankment and delight in the food and drink available for purchase. Stop for a time at the outdoor piazzas where entertainment has been arranged.

It promises to be a beautiful day today and tomorrow looks just as fine. Our Department of Magical Law Enforcement has been working diligently to ensure that all those who are loyal may enjoy the pleasures to be found in the world's greatest city. We shall not let the Phoenixes ruin our freedom, nor shall we allow them to spoil our opportunities for celebration.

I've just received word from WWN that they'll be re-broadcasting today's interview in the evening programme. Menken told me they're already teeming with owls and expect that if people tune in after their suppers, we shall have no shortage of ready donors by week's end.

Once again, Miss Weasley: Very well done, indeed. It's plain to see you've not forgotten your lessons learned while modelling. I've rarely known a witch of your age so poised. Even Menken was impressed by how quickly they could turn the recording round for broadcast.

I hear that you've made great progress on your latest acquisition. Do you anticipate she'll be ready for a public appearance soon?

We can ease her into things, of course. Control the circumstances, maintain final editing privilege, that sort of thing.

But thought you might be ready for a little test which may merit reward for success. And we could certainly use a fresh perspective on the Phoenix organisation.
alt_ptolemy: (No)
How is the team coming along? Will we be able to move soon?

Too many bloody committees this weekend all wanting to have their say. We should have done it already.

Something's gone awry, NL17. Need backup.

Will extricate but this crowd has gone from sullen to riotous rather quickly.

As Mr Cantrell and his family at the Hedgepig can attest, the Phoenixes represent a clear danger to any who oppose them. We reiterate that the only sensible course of action is to safeguard your loved ones by ensuring the Protectorate knows where to patrol for unwelcome elements in your neighbourhoods.

If there is any doubt as to the viciousness with which the Phoenix treats its enemies, a full account of this evening's tragic fire will appear ih the Prophet tomorrow.
alt_ptolemy: (Smile)
Work like today's calls for a minor celebration, don't you think? Well done, getting all those donations. Interested in a drink? A few lads are gathering at the Oroboros in about an hour.

It's not all good news, though. The Canary Wharf lot have come up short for the week. Tomorrow we'll send Torneur, Nashe and some others in Phoenix armbands to unleash a bit of terror. Have already told Crouch to keep the others away until Torneur's signal. Haven't heard about Battersea yet--any word, your end?

Oh, you asked about young Finnigan. Well enough, I think, but it's Monty who really has him in hand. More infatuation than deep attachment. He was simply better positioned to capitalise on the lad's loneliness. I don't doubt he's loyal, in fact, he's thrilled to be training for the Aurors. He's still looking for his niche, ways to be helpful. If you've ideas, I'm sure he'd be eager to assist.

Received draft of Prophet article (Doyle's work, for the most part) and Nesbitt's been prepped for the WWN tomorrow morning. Highlights:

Nesbitt family were found in their Watford home, quite tragically dead, with the exception of Galen Nesbitt, age 29.

Mr Nesbitt returned from work just in time to see the Phoenixes fleeing the scene. He particularly recognised Black's enchanted motorcycle. He also believes he saw young Malfoy - distinctive, after all, and his picture was just in their rag of a paper on Sunday.

Mr Nesbitt then entered his family's home and found his parents, his sister and an uncle who lived with them, all dead. He immediately contacted MLE. On questioning, we learned that the family had been contacted because his mother is a Healer and the false government is in desperate need of qualified staff. According to Nesbitt, the family had no intention of defecting and Mrs Nesbitt had not replied. Malfoy and Black must have shown up and not taken no for an answer.

Any further refinements?

From there Crispin will talk about how to contribute to the cause so that MLE will be better equipped to protect those who live in these outlying communities.

Oh, and we've a confirmed identity on one of the two warlocks found at the old Ministry site: Towler.

All right, Monty? Making Finnigan feel comfortable?

Is tonight the night, or no. Or will you favour another?
alt_ptolemy: (Sex)
Found mine. You?

Kathryn seems to have settled on Zabini and Siobhan. Know you were hoping to go there tonight.

What about Sarah, or Euterpe?

Mind, if it's Sarah, don't let her do anything permanently damaging.

P.S. Thank you for not inviting Clearwater.

Heard you've been talking to my sister, Finnigan. Good job, keep at it. Penny, if she comes to you, be sure to tell her it's all for the good of the many and remind her that she did well, and the nightmares will fade in time. You know, the Prefect act. Oh, and that she was right to tell Parkinson to clear off. I've already said so but reinforcement can't hurt.

Anyway, Irish, whatever you said to her helped, must have done. Was wondering if you'd try your hand with Malcolm. My father says he's barely come out of his room since the battle. Didn't even get too excited about replacing the wand that was left at Hogwarts. See if you can cheer him up? It's making the others nervous.

Pandora's being over-dramatic. I don't care what she says: Lucy's fine. She'll be fine. I'm not going to leave her alone for a second and we'll have full approval of the article before it runs on Sunday.

If you ask me, she's looking forward to it. I've told her she'll become a celebrity overnight and she's liable to get loads of sympathy in the post. She wants to help out. Thinks it's a fitting way to remember all the mates she lost.

You can come along if you think that will put her mother at ease. Not Pandora herself, though, she's got a horrible poker face and those shark reporters would be sure to smell blood in the water. She needs to get a grip on herself if she's going to be of any use.
alt_ptolemy: (Smile)
Monty says you've been looking for ways to make yourself useful.

Have a job for you later today, if you're interested. I'll be out on some rounds but Karo could use a fresh face to smile at the crowds. Nothing to it. Tell them how everything's going to be just fine if we can only achieve some law and order, and stop those rebels up north. Hand out some biscuits or a bit of gold and off they go, secure in the knowledge that their government truly cares.

If you think you can manage it. Cheer up. From what I hear, you're one of the better recruits to come along in a year or three. Keep your wits about you and you could step into nearly anyone's shoes, the way things are now. Only don't go getting ideas about my job, ha.

Crispin's helping, too, you could catch up on old times. Wasn't he your sponsor?
alt_ptolemy: (Sex)
Making the ickle Mick feel all at home and comfy, are you?

Karo wanted me to invite you to dinner in our rooms tonight, if you're free.

If you're not free, bring the sprog next time.
